Upon completion of basic training at Parris Island, Wes enjoyed leave time at home and then was transported by train with many of his fellow graduates to join the Third Marine Division, Fleet Marine Force, which had been activated at Camp Elliott in San Diego.
While at Camp Elliott, Wes received specialized Signal Corps training as a lineman, as were a number of Navajo Code Talkers.
brownalumnimonth438brow-12 Eastman was noted in the April 1943 edition of the Brown University Alumni Monthy as a member of the class of 1941 stationed at Camp Elliott.Once Wes completed his training at Camp Elliott, he left San Diego via the SS Lurline, arriving at Auckland, New Zealand on February 23rd, 1943.
Camp decommissioned
